An Evening of Poetry with Iryna Shuvalova Award-winning Ukrainian poet Iryna Shuvalova visits Alvik Library to mark the publication of Slutsånger, her first poetry collection in Swedish, translated by Susanna Witt and published by 20TAL. During the event, Iryna Shuvalova will be in conversation with moderator Julia Gerdner. She will read her poetry in Ukrainian, with the Swedish versions read by Julia Gerdner. The conversation will be held in English. There will be time for questions from the audience, and the book will be available for purchase and signing afterwards. Iryna Shuvalova (b. 1986 in Kyiv) is a poet, translator, and scholar. She is the author of five poetry collections in Ukrainian, among them kaminsadlis / stoneorchardwoods (2020), named poetry book of the year in Ukraine, and kinechni pisni / endsongs (2024). Her bilingual collection Pray to the Empty Wells (2019) is available in English. Her poems have been translated into more than thirty languages. In 2026, she received Norway's Ordknappen prize for the collection Ingen planer om å bli. She holds a PhD in Slavonic Studies from the University of Cambridge and is a member of PEN Ukraine. As a translator, she has brought Louise Glück, Alice Oswald, and Ted Hughes into Ukrainian. Iryna Shuvalova represents a generation of war poets; however, her poetry has much more to offer. Besides being a powerful reflection on the war, it also features the country's fascinating poetic landscape, feminist writing, ecopoetics, and a queer voice. Her poems exist in more than thirty languages; her collection Stoneorchardwoods was named poetry book of the year in Ukraine, and this summer she received Norway's Ordknappen prize.
